New Product!

I went to Sephora this week to return my Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation. I talked about that foundation in my previous posts, but after using it for a few more weeks...it just did not work out for my skin. The coverage was too sheer and the staying power did not last long enough for my super oily skin. My skin is oily all over, my T-zone and U-zone.

I walked in Sephora and this foundation was displayed directly at the entrance on a display box. It immediately caught my eye, but for $55, I didn't think I was going to splurge that much. A Sephora girl named Kristen assisted me in finding a new foundation. She sat me down and we tested out the new Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation. The pigmentation of the product was great, but it was too cakey for me. Kristen told me that the product is slightly more cakey than other foundations because they are formulated with 39% of pigments...which is a much higher concentration of pigments compared to other brands. That did not work out, so she let me try the YSL foundation that caught my eye on the display.

After she did a complete full face makeup for me, I was sold and decided $55 for a foundation is worth the investment. After all, I am applying the product on my face, so why not spend a little extra? The color I got matched me perfectly and had a yellow undertone which is what I love! The color is BD 50 (Beige Dore). Oh, I forgot to mention...this foundation is the YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat (such a long name)!

The foundation claims to be have an illuminating effect with SPF 19. It is free of any opaque powders and reverses dullness and imperfections. So far, I have used this product twice and so far so good. The coverage is medium, with a demi-matte finish. I do find that my skin becomes oily after approximately 3 hours.

I will do a more in depth review after I test out the product a little more. I want to make sure it does not break me out. You can purchase this product at Sephora and other department stores that sell YSL products. I got mine at Sephora for $55.

Twitter Chat Today!

Hey everyone! I had a Twitter chat with my peers today, and it was great! We talked about so many things! If you want to see what we chatted about type in #studentbeautychat on Twitter!

One thing I learned from my peers is that a lot of us shop at the same places for our beauty products. Some popular responses we had were Sephora, Ulta and Drugstores. I personally shop at only Sephora and drugstores because I don't have an Ulta store nearby. One of my classmates actually shops at tradeshows because she has a discount for being a makeup artist. Lucky girl!

Where do you girls like to shop for your makeup? What do you usually buy when shopping for makeup? Leave a comment!

Lash on Lash on Lash!

Hey everyone! Happy Friday! I recently went to Sally's Beauty Supply for some false lashes and I picked up the Ardell Natural's in #131. They were a little pricey...approximately $6 a pair. These lashes are good quality, and made with synthetic hair. I actually like synthetic hairs because they don't get damaged as much in water or when my eyes tear up.

They do look pretty natural and the length is good. Very comfortable to wear because the lash band (the part that holds the lashes together) is very soft.

TIP: If you are new to eyelashes and you are looking for something comfortable, pick false lashes that have a thin band. The thinner the band, the more flexible the eyelashes are. The ability the band can bend easily, the less it will poke your eyelids.

Hope you guys enjoyed my review!

Sephora Mini Haul

I stopped by Sephora early this morning to look for a natural nude lipstick. I found this particular one from Make Up Forever. I have it in shade #32. I loved the color it appeared to be on my hand when I swatched it. I tried it on my lips and it came out to be a pale pinky nude. The color is too pale for my skin tone and I will be returning this product. However, I love the formulation of this lipstick. It is very opaque and creamy. It will work great even without a lip liner. I will be trying a different shade from this collection. ($19 at Sephora).

MAC Mini Haul

Hey everyone! Earlier this week on Monday, my class had a field trip to the MAC Pro Store in Beverly Hills, CA. While we were there, we got to see a demo by a MAC Artist and also learned about the history of MAC Cosmetics and how it is involved with the community. After the presentation, we had the option to shop around! Here are two things I picked up.

I purchased the lip eraser because I heard that it takes away all color on your lips , and preps it for true-to-color lipstick application. I tried it on and I hated it. It was extremely drying and did not help my lipstick adhere better. The formula was very thin and I had to use about 3 coats of the lip eraser to take away my natural lip color. Overall, I could have used my powder foundation and put it over my lips with better results. Very disappointed! ($19.50)

The next item I purchased was the Superslick Liquid Eyeliner in the color 'On the Hunt.' Basically, a dark black with a shiny finish (no glitters). I love this product. It is long lasting and the sponge tip applicator makes winged eyeliner super easy. ($18.50)

The lip eraser is only available at MAC Pro Stores

What is BB Cream?

BB cream is popularly known as "blemish balm," "blemish base,"beblesh balm,"  or "beauty balm." It was created in Germany by a dermatologist in the 1950s. It was created as a treatment to protect the skin after laser or surgery. BB creams provide a light coverage, sun protection, and ingredients that are beneficial for the skin.
In the 1980s, BB creams became propular in South Korea and Japan. It was mainly focused in the East Asian Market. This product was popular because of it's multi-functions in one product. You get sun protection, light coverage, it is anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, and can act as a primer. Basically, it is like a tinted moisturizer + skincare. BB creams alone, hit 13% of the cosmetic market.
The down side of BB Creams are the limits of shade ranges. BB creams that are Korean brands tend to only have one shade. The color is fair due to the fairer skintones of Asian women. The U.S. market is starting to follow the trend and create their own BB Creams. BB cream brands sold in the U.S. have more shade options. Some brands that carry BB creams include Maybelline, Loreal, Smashbox, and Dior. Clinique, Boscia, Dr. Jart, Too Faced, and Stila to name a few. You can purchase them from Sephora or local drugstores.

Haul: Benefit Hoola Bronzer & Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

Picked up 2 things at the mall this weekend. I didn't like the Stila Foundation, so I decided to give the Urban Decay Foundation a try. This is a new product from Urban Decay and after one day of use, I am in love! The color I have is Shade 4.0 ($38). I have olive/yellow undertones and according to UD's website, colors ending in .0 have yellow undertones, while colors ending in .5 have pink undertones. So keep that in mind if you want to try this product! The formulation is watery and blends smoothly. I especially love that Shade 4.0 matches my skin perfectly. I am shade NC30 in MAC. It wears well, I had to touch up about twice. But overall, a very natural demi-matte finish.

The other product I picked up was the Benefit Hoola Bronzer ($28). People have been raving about this bronzer for years and I decided to try this out because I been into contouring lately. I love that this is a matte bronzer so I can contour with it without looking too shimmery. It blends easily with a blush brush. So far so good!

Stila Foundation, Hourglass Primer, MAC Cremeblush Review

Last week, I showed you guys my mini haul at the mall. Check blog post (http://weeklyweylie.blogspot.com/2012/07/i-went-to-mall-yesterday-to-return.html). I've been using these products for a week now and I actually returned the Stila Foundation. The first picture, I have on the Hourglass Primer and the Stila Foundation- ONLY on my skin. The second picture, I added concealer and my MAC CremeBlush in "Brit Wit." The blush is great. I love the color because of how natural it looks and how smooth it applies. It gave a really subtle and natural glow to my skin. Overall, I kept the primer and blush and do plan on using it more.

I did not like the Stila Foundation because the coverage was too light for me. The formula was also a little dry for my skin. The color was also a little pale on me, but the shade that is one shade darker than this is TOO dark for me. I could not find the perfect match. I returned it and picked up something else instead and I am in love with it! Stay tuned for it in my next post ;)

Tarte Cheek Stain

My teacher was super sweet to give me this little gift! I have seen these cheek stains at Sephora and Ulta, but never thought I'd give it a try. But why not if I got it as a gift? This cheek stain comes with 1oz of product, retailing at $30. It is a gel based blush, alcohol free and oil-free.
The color I have is "loving," which is a pinkish coral color (more on the coral side to me). It has a light lemon-y scent, although on the product description on Sephora's website says it has a berry scent. The texture is smooth and creamy, but feels a little greasy to the touch. It also has shimmers so if you aren't a shimmer type of girl, this product is not for you. Overall, cute packaging and I'll update you guys next week on how this product works on my skin!

Mini Haul

I went to the mall yesterday to return something at Sephora, but I ended up walking out the mall with a few purchases! Super excited to try out the NEW Stila Stay All Day Foundation in Light 3 ($44 at Sephora). I also picked up the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. I heard lots of great things about this primer and decided to pick up the travel size to give it a try ($18 at Sephora). I stopped by Nordstroms MAC counter after and picked up a creme blush in "Brit Wit" ($20). I will keep you guys updated on how these products work for me! Have a nice day everyone!

Welcome to my blog!

In this blog, I will be posting my beauty hauls, followed with reviews on products I have tried. Stay tuned!
